Sex From a Christian Perspective

Many couples today are looking for Christian sex advice to help them answer some important questions. Sex has been a taboo subject in churches for a long time, but what people don’t realize is that sex is a gift from God! By not teaching sexual education in a Christian setting, we are making it so that the only education is found in the secular world.

Just because sex is a gift from God doesn’t mean that all forms of sex are okay. If you were to receive a new car, you would think that it was a wonderful gift. However, in the same way that a car can be misused by driving carelessly, too fast, or while intoxicated – sex too can be handled incorrectly.

Christian sex advice is needed now more than ever. While sex is a very special act, it is also something that can be taken too far. Here are some guidelines for Christians to enjoy an incredible sex life.

Wait Until Marriage

Sex is something that is only meant to be shared with one partner. It is such an intimate act that you should wait for until you are able to enjoy it with your husband or wife.

Christian sex advice follows the same teachings as the secular world when it says that sex is best shared between two people that are in love. While sex is quite stimulating, there is an emptiness that resides unless there is a love that is stronger than the physical act itself.

By waiting until marriage you will make certain that you may have a more enjoyable sex life – one that is fulfilling, pure, and romantic.

Hebrews 13:4 tells us: “Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”

Sex in Marriage

Couples often look for Christian sex advice as to what is appropriate inside a marriage. Although the Bible speaks harshly against homosexuality, bestiality and incest, it says very little in regards to what sexual acts are okay inside the bedroom of a married couple.

Although the Bible doesn’t give a lot of Christian sex advice, there are a couple of guidelines on how to treat others that are taught throughout the Scriptures that can be applied to sex.

  1. Respect one another - Sex is only appropriate when both partners agree that it is okay. If one partner doesn't want to take part in a sexual act, then it is wrong to force them into doing it.
  2. The body is the temple of God - Any act that is harmful to the other person's health in any way, long-term or short-term, shouldn't be an acceptable form of sex.

While there are a number of different ideas surrounding Christian sex advice, a common view is that mutual sex in any form is alright if it follows these basic guidelines.

By making your sexual relationship about love instead of lust, you will have a much more enjoyable time being intimate with your spouse. Acts of lust, such as looking at pornography, can cause feelings of guilt and shame afterwards. However, if you are having a sexual relationship that is built around trust, love, passion and respect then you will have an intimate marriage that is full of romance.
